Hours later. Coffee cups have multiplied. Kai paces while Elara works two keyboards. The wall display now shows a timeline view of the archive, documents arranged chronologically.

ELARA I ran a provenance trace on the Loom documents. Every fact chains back to primary sources — lab reports, internal memos, sensor data. Whoever built this archive wasn’t speculating. They were documenting.

KAI Documenting what?

Elara pulls up a page. Dense text with highlighted passages.

ELARA Aquifer contamination. Twelve sites across the valley. The data goes back fifteen years. And look —

She highlights a cluster of links.

ELARA Every site connects to the same three corporate entities through Meridian Holdings shell companies. The archive maps the entire ownership chain. Shell inside shell inside shell.

KAI (stopping) That’s why they buried it. This isn’t just data. It’s a prosecution.

ELARA Whoever built this archive didn’t just collect the evidence — they connected it. Every link is deliberate. Every path leads back to the same names.

Kai stares at the graph. Slowly, he pulls out his phone, scrolls through old contacts.

KAI I know someone at the EPA regional office. Ruth Gallegos. We worked a story together before the CDI shutdown. If anyone can verify this data…

Kai enters carrying two coffees. Elara hasn’t moved from her screen. The knowledge graph now fills a wall-mounted display — thousands of nodes pulsing softly.

KAI How big is it?

ELARA Twelve thousand pages. Cross-linked. Every document references others — backlinks, citations, provenance trails. It’s like someone built an entire second internet and hid it.

Kai sets the coffee down, leans in. His glasses reflect the graph.

KAI Who built it?

ELARA That’s the thing. The metadata is stripped, but the link structure… look at this.

She zooms into a dense cluster. Red nodes pulse at its centre.

ELARA These twenty pages? Every other document in the archive connects back to them within three hops. They’re the foundation. And they all reference something called “Project Loom.”

KAI (quietly) Loom. I’ve heard that name. Ten years ago, before they shut down the Civic Data Initiative.

He straightens up. His expression has changed — no longer curious. Worried.

INT. HACKER SPACE — CONTINUOUS

A cluttered room. Monitors cast blue light over empty coffee cups and tangled cables. ELARA (30s, sharp eyes, paint-stained hoodie) types furiously. A terminal fills with scrolling text.

ELARA (muttering) Come on, come on… one more pass and we’re through.

A progress bar hits 100%. The screen flashes green. Elara leans back, exhales.

ELARA Hello, beautiful.

On screen: a vast graph of interconnected nodes — a knowledge map of something enormous. She pulls out her phone, dials.

ELARA Kai, wake up. I found the archive. The whole thing. Every link, every connection they tried to bury.

INT. KAI’S APARTMENT — BEDROOM — CONTINUOUS

Elara Voss

Age 32. Self-taught systems engineer and data analyst. Works freelance penetration testing by day, digs through abandoned data archives by night. Her apartment doubles as the hacker space. Runs on coffee, spite, and an unshakeable belief that hidden information wants to be found.

Built the dead drop — a distributed encrypted storage network spanning seven jurisdictions. Paranoid by profession, meticulous by nature.
